Live and learn with peers from around the world!
ISAK Summer School is a chance to experience real diversity. Expect to find students from more than 30 different countries at summer school, representing diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. By living and learning together, students get the chance to understand multiple perspectives and to practice empathy and inclusion while tackling exciting challenges with peers from around the globe.
Summer School Curriculum 2016
ISAK Summer School 2016 was two full weeks of exciting, engaging and enlightening experiences taught and supervised by world-class educators and counselors. The curriculum for Summer School 2016 included leadership, design innovation, academics, outdoor education, multi-media arts, international negotiation, Japanese culture, and much more. Read below to learn about some highlights of the program.
We plan to offer a similar program in 2017 and full details will be available on our website soon.
Our innovative Leadership Program has helped hundreds of students transform themselves into change-makers!
At ISAK, we believe that leadership is not a position or title, but rather a skill that everyone can develop with practice. (Learn more about leadership at ISAK). Through our leadership program, students learn how to identify what is most important to themselves and to others, and they learn how to act on what is most important, even when faced with difficulties. Students gain both strength and perseverance as they worked to develop their own unique leadership styles.
Design Innovation Program
The Design Innovation Course (DI), inspired by the ‘Design Thinking’ method, unlocks and nurtures the creativity that lies within, helping all students realize that they have great ideas and insights that can make a difference in the world.
The DI course has been supported by professional coaches from companies such as world-renowned IDEO, and talented instructors from places like Stanford University’s d.school. Because the DI course is integrated with other summer school classes, students get the chance to put their new ideas and insights to work immediately!
International Negotiation Program
The International Negotiation Program teaches students how to make changes in a global context.
The program starts off by discussing how to understand different perspectives and how to negotiate to solve their own real-world problems. (How do you negotiate with your parents about something that is important to you?) As the class progresses, students move on to bigger issues, taking on roles as diplomats in the United Nations working to solve global issues.

Our world-class faculty helps students realize the joy and relevance of learning by bringing the outside world into the classroom. In mathematics, for example, statistics and functions are used to solve everyday problems. In history class, the emphasis is not on memorizing dates and facts, but rather, understanding the various perspectives that surround a historical event. In science, interesting experiments and role-play help students learn the practical uses for technology in the real world.
Our theater class helps students gain the confidence to speak aloud in front of group as they learn new ways to communicate effectively. Students discover the age-old art of storytelling as they explore and discuss cultural and social disparities.
Multimedia Art Class
This class focuses on using digital photography, computer graphics, and coding to create multimedia art.
The ISAK campus is located in one of the most beautiful mountain resort areas in Japan. A variety of outdoor activities give students the chance to immerse themselves in nature and challenge themselves both physically and mentally while developing valuable teamwork skills.
Intensive English Course (IEC)
ISAK Summer School offers an Intensive English Course (IEC) for those students whose English is not quite strong enough for them to participate 100% in the all-English academic curriculum. Learn more about IEC here.
Japanese culture, art, sports, dance, calligraphy and more! ISAK Summer School offers a wide variety of interesting activities that challenge and inspire. Two favorite events at the Summer School are the student-led Country Presentations where students share what is important and special about their home countries, and the Talent Show, where performances showcase a wide variety of individual talents and passions.
