Grade 10: The Foundation Year
Grade 10 at ISAK is a pre-IB foundation year, giving you the opportunity to polish your research, writing and presentation skills before beginning the IB Diploma Programme in Grade 11.
At ISAK, you will enjoy studying in small classes with students from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Our small, discussion-based classes give you exposure to many different perspectives and help you develop critical thinking habits and the opportunity to express your views. Group projects and individual presentations are also a common part of the ISAK educational experience, helping you develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
With nearly all teachers living on campus, you can also interact with faculty outside the classroom, and ISAK students are often seen discussing current events or classroom assignments with faculty members during mealtimes or after school. Please see The ISAK Education for an overview of ISAK’s unique educational program.
Viktor, Class of 2018 talks about how the G-10 curriculum has challenged him.
All students in Grade 10 take the following courses:
- Japanese (beginner, intermediate or native level)
- Social Studies
- Mindful Self-Discipline (Health Science)
- Physical Education
- Information Science
- Design Innovation (Home Economics)
In addition to academics, we believe that contributing to the community is an important part of the ISAK experience. All Grade 10 students participate in community service activities every Friday afternoon. Not only do these kinds of service activities support our community, they also provide you with the opportunity to utilize your Japanese skills and communicate with local people of all ages.
